Having been brought up on the edge of the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, Katherine Whitby’s early artistic endeavours were stimulated by the natural landscape around her.
Katherine’s studies have included fine art, photography and life drawing and she holds a degree in History of Art & Architecture from the University of York.
Katherine Whitby’s initial career in interior design & decoration complements her work as an artist and her home and immediate surroundings provide a rich source of inspiration.
She currently produces both pen and ink drawings and oil paintings.
In pen, Katherine strives to capture the subject in exacting detail coupled with a sense of drama created by light and shade which is heightened in this monochrome medium.
In oil, she is fascinated with trying to depict the infinite variations of hue within seemingly one single ‘colour’ and using an individual brushstroke to describe a thousand details.
