Art . . from T-bags?

Posted in

We recently had an interesting piece of art to be framed in our workshop. All the way from South Africa, this amazing image was made from re-cycled T bags! Even the labels were used!

Tea bags are dried, emptied, ironed then made into individual works of art! Each artist has their own individual styles and patterns.

We used a pale mount colour together with a lightly distressed dark wood frame which works great – highlighting the artwork.

Over in South Africa, Jill Heyes, now affectionately known as ‘The T-Bag Lady’, along with her T-Bag team, has created a working environment where people have gained far more than employment. As each tea leaf is crucial to a perfect brew, so each individual at Original T-Bag Designs is central to a business that has become a family. Read her story here – how it all started.

Those T-bags, now miniature works of art, are then applied to stationary, wooden trays, coasters, fabric items, wall decor and the ideas keep flowing! For a group of previously disadvantaged people in Hout Bay near Cape Town, South Africa, one cup of tea has indeed provided community, love, excitement, financial security and HOPE.
