Jan Gaska Solo Art Exhibition at The Hit Or Miss Pub in Penn Street
From Saturday 19th March to Sunday 29th April 2020
Jan Gaska is a figurative painter and printmaker who is also a member of Bucks Art Society.
Jan attended St Augustine’s RC School and has lived in High Wycombe most of his life. He studied his Fine Art degree at Surrey Institute of Art & Design, specialising in printmaking.
This was followed by a masters in Printmaking & Illustration at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University in 2003.
In 2004, Jan started a two year Print Making residency at South Hill Park Arts Centre in Bracknell, teaching Print Making. The end of the residency resulted in Jan’s first major solo exhibition at the Bracknell Gallery.
Jan started painting during 2009 at the suggestion of a tutor whilst studying his Masters Degree. Painting from observation leading to ‘plein air’ painting around the South Buckinghamshire area.
‘I draw and paint mostly from observation, finding it a particularly satisfying thing to do. It’s a challenge I welcome every time I pick up a brush and pencil to work from a new subject.’
‘I believe that some works I have produced have ambiguity in meaning which I quite like. My work definitely sits in the realist genre with impressionist characteristics. I feel my work is not static but a learning process I am continually finding my own approach.’
