Picture framing moulding can be used for so much more than just artwork, mirrors etc. They can also be used as a display base for a number of items, some of which you can see below.
One unusual item we have been asked to frame was an edible icing sugar cake topper from a couples 50th Wedding Anniversary cake. The customer chose a moulding to be made into a plinth that had a distressed, ‘beachcomb’ look with a sand coloured base to tie in with the seaside theme of the cake (they met on a bench at a beach).
Various sporting memorabilia can be displayed on plinths under acrylic boxes. The moulding used in the plinth for the above signed cricket ball was selected for a gentleman’s study feel and is a gloss, walnut, veneer finish.
Footballs, rugby balls etc are a very popular item to be displayed on a plinth with an acrylic box. A brushed black moulding was used for the above football to tie in with other items that had previously been framed in the same moulding.
We have used various profiles and finishes of mouldings to display models of all descriptions – here we show a 1:32 scale Airfix WWII British Infantry Soldier. Other models have included Warhammer, Hornby, Vanguard Diecast Models on a display base.
For this contemporary wood carving, we used a gothic style, cassetta profile moulding to compliment the tones and grain of the wood the artist chose.
Below are other examples of plinths and display base in various styles of moulding that are suited to the making of plinths. For more information, you can call or email us at Contact
